I must say, that after listening to this album i am unbelievably amazed. This is one of the most refreshing albums that i have heard in a long time. It's so different and stand on its on. I wont say this is for the mainstream ear, but it is something that you should definitely give a listen to. It's reminiscent of Lauren Hills "Miss education" but not in a replicating way. More in a way of its uniqueness and how solid the sound is. It's hard to even characterize the style, or styles, that Monae has decided to use on this album. The album is promiscuous in its choices of genre, but it is something so out of this world. Geez, it makes me trip on my words as i type this and let these lyrics and melodies flow through my head. The soul of early Michael Jackson, the heart of Lauren Hill, and the vision and daringness of Andre 3000 the Love Below mixed with little bit of cuteness from Gwen Stefani's "Love, Angel, Music, Baby."
Some of my favorite stand out tracks, are Cold War which is a fast paced track that owns this "cool" factor and makes you feel hip as you listen and question "what AM i fighting for?" and it goes hand in hand with the cd's lead single "Tightrope" and track with a throwback feel to it that makes you feel good instantly. But don't let these tracks give you any idea to whats on the album, cause although is themed, neither track helps to understand the album.
Another Great Listen is "Oh, Maker" which i only wish was a longer track, "Come Alive" which makes you start think, is this the same girl on all these tracks. Wondaland, which is so light and sweet and happens to be my favorite track on the album for some reason. But prob one of the best tracks is "Say You'll Go," which is so pure and absolutely beautiful. At least take a listen to the album and go out and support the artist. I definitely am.
